Omerta sportsbook & casino

The objective of this project was to choose a genre and create a fictional app that would function in that universe. I chose the genre crime, and given the recent rise and dominance of legal sports betting and online casinos, I created a sportsbook and casino app that would have been run by the Mafia.

Conceptualization & DESIGN DECISIONS

  • Given the recent rise in legal sports gambling, I concluded that choosing this genre and creating an app based on those who used to have a stranglehold on the sports gambling business, the Mafia, would be a very fun project to bring to fruition.
  • Using inspirations such as movies like Goodfellas, Casino, The Irishman and shows like The Sopranos, choosing red and black as the primary color palette was a crucial design decision to illustrate the direction that this app was going. In addition to that, with many of those associated with the Mafia hailing from Italy, using green as a primary accent color completed the three colors of the Italian flag. 
  • One of the most crucial parts of the development of this idea was differentiating it from similar apps and giving the true ambiance of what might have been seen in a world where the Mafia still runs the world of sports gambling. One of the biggest features of this app is “The Fix” promo. It is common knowledge that fixing games was commonplace in this era of sports betting so adding a section dedicated to that practice not only added differentiation but also something relative to how bookies used to conduct business.
